Human ‘in vitro’ cell-based models can be valuable for investigating development and function of the brain in health and disease and to help screen new drug candidates. Until recently, it was difficult to acquire relevant human cells for such models. However, the advent of human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) and 3D culture technologies has opened new avenues for construction of more physiological, sophisticated in vitro models. Our work on 3D hiPSC-based healthy and Alzheimer’s disease models will be discussed.

The Frontier Science series of lectures focus on areas of expertise within the University of Reading. Presenters are leading researchers, so enhance your knowledge and get a glimpse of what your pupils could go on to study.
